#GALTIP: Stay within 2-3 scents depending on how large your home is. Larger home = 3, smaller home = 2. You don't want to give you or others a headache.
1. CANDLES, CANDLES, CANDLES!
I can't get enough of these. Ask any of my friends, or a cashier at the TJMaxx I go to. If you buy candles with 2-3 wicks, the smell is much more vibrant and spreads quicker from room to room. My favorites are lavender, eucalyptus, mint, and lighter seasonal smells like cinnamon. My go-to place for these is TJMaxx. They have quality candles for cheaper prices.
2. AROMATHERAPY DIFFUSER
These are great for helping stabilize and sooth you emotionally and mentally. Different scents help you in different ways. I like to use pure Essential Oils and Lassen's oils. My go-to scent is lavender.
3. FABRIC SPRAY
You can use these for your closet, bedsheets, pillows, and fabric furniture as a protectant from pet smells, stains and refresh with either a neutralizing smell or other smells like cotton and for me – yes you guessed it – lavender.
4. EUCALYPTUS
Get a handful of eucalyptus and secure with a rubber band to your shower-head. The steam from your shower will make the bathroom and connecting room smell like an at-home spa.
5. AIR SPONGES
I like to hide these in areas that have the potential to have immediate smells. They usually aren't the prettiest, so that's why I hide them behind the toilet, on top of the fridge, behind the trash... you get the idea.
6. OPEN THE WINDOWS
This is something so simple people forget to do. Sometimes our natural scent from our laundry, cooking, and pets mixed with the above scents can get stuffy. Opening the windows can help neutralize.
7. WASH YOUR BEDSHEETS REGULARLY
Do this at least once every 2 weeks. Our bed can keep the smell of drool, gas, hair/face oils, and the makeup we forgot to wash off. Pretty much everything we leave behind stays there for us to come back to. Washing the sheets will keep you and your bedroom feeling fresh.
8. HEPA AIR PURIFIER/FILTER
I didn't quite believe in these until my boyfriend and I got one ourselves after redoing a bathroom that had black mold. We really tell a difference between the times we do and don't use it. Starting a stuffy nose? Turn on the filter. Been out of town for a while? Turn on the filter. Not all are tall and ugly either. We bought a white shorter one like this one and stash it on the bottom of a book shelf.
9. STOVETOP SMELLS
Don't want to buy a diffuser or candles, but have citrus and some herbs laying around? Fill a pot with water on your stovetop to low-med head. Slice the orange, lemon, or lime along with pieces of rosemary, mint or any other good and preferred smell into the pot of water. Stir, and the smells will fill the air. However, don't step away too long from the stovetop.
10. WAX MELTS
If you want your house to smell good when you come back from work, try wax melts. Unlike a candle, you won't burn the home down from leaving it during the day. I would recommend buying a few since the scent from these doesn't usually carry outside of a room.
